New Zealand 1845-66. Reverse dated 1863 to 1865. Correctly impressed 600 Thos. Wheelton, 70th Regt
Condition, Good Fine (heavy edge bruising which effects the naming in places)
Thomas Wheelton was born in Manchester in 1841. He attested as an 18 year old on the 21st of April 1859, giving his occupation as Labourer. He first serve with the 70th Regiment, seeing active service in New Zealand for which he was awarded the medal. This is confirmed in his service papers and on the roll.
After 12 years service he renegade transferring the to Kings Own Scottish Borders. He finished his army career serving with Durhams. Thomas was discharged at Sunderland in May 1880.
