Rare and important WW2 Third Reich Herman Goering Cigar Case. The top of the lid has the Coat of Arms of Hermann Goering, the stones look to Garnets. The base of the box is marked '800 Wellner'. The front is engraved ' Carin II'

Hermann Goering was born in Bavaria on the 12th January 1893, he served as an Infantry Officer during WW1, before transferring to the Luftstreitkräfte in 1916. He became an ace, was awarded the Pour le Mérite and commanded Jagdgeschwader I from July 1918 until the end of the war

Goering joined the NSDAP in 1922; he took part in the Munich Putsch on 8th / 9th November 1923, during which he was wounded, leading to his Morphine addiction. He held numerous positions within the Nazi Party; for a period, he commanded the SA, was president of the Reichstag from 30th August 1932 and Chief of the Luftwaffe from 1st March 1935, holding both positions until 23rd/24th April 1945.

He married Countess Carin von Kantzowin in 1922, having met in 1920. When they met, Carin was ten years his senior and still married to her first husband. She died in 1931 from heart failure. In tribute, Goering named his residence in the Schorfheide Forest 'Carinhall.'

In 1936, Goering had a luxury yacht built, commissioning it as 'Carin II' in June 1937. Goering used the vessel until just before the start of WW2; it is believed that the Cigarette box offered for sale here is from the 'Carin II.'

'Carin II' was confiscated by the British at the end of WW2, and later returned to Goering's second wife, Emmy, who sold it. Since 2017, the Yacht, now named 'My Prince Charles', has been in the Old Marina in El-Guna, Egypt.

Goering was tried at Nuremberg for major War Crimes; he was found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging. He committed suicide by taking cyanide on 15th October 1946, the night before his execution.
