An Edo period (1615-1868), early/mid 19th century black lacquered Kyosoku (armrest)
decorated in gold and slight-coloured takamaki-e and hiramaki-e with highlights of e-nashiji and kirikane with a pair of ho-ho birds flying above flowering paulownia branches extending almost across the entire width and pine saplings, on a ground scattered with three Tosa kashiwa mon, the legs similarly lacquered, the underside of mura-nashiji; unsigned, height 22cm x length 64.5cm (8¾ inches x 25.5 inches)
